Plus Size Fun – Meerkat with Kenda 2.6″ Plus tires

The Bike Log

I have a pretty fun job. On Sunday night, father son duo Jim and Paxson tried a new bike set-up on Mt. Tam. Meerkat Chat I met them with my twelve-year-old son, who videotaped and edited all our footage, and my two-year-old son who rode like a boss down Diaz Ridge on his Starfish. We had smoothies together after.

The Plus size tires on the Meerkat proved crazy fun. I realize as I write this that four of us took turns pumping the bike into turns and jumping over rocks and we didn’t have any flats. Good thing because I didn’t bring back up tubes.   The kids had fun.  With their parents!

And, that seems like a decent place to begin with Cleary Bikes. I had a light bulb moment when I first thought of a line of kids’ bikes – and I was with my kids when I had it. Kids have always been the most important part of our bikes. If you see me running toward your child one day, please don’t be alarmed. I introduce myself to every kid I see riding on one of our bikes. They usually ignore me, but I get a huge charge out of it.

As this marks the first of our new regularly scheduled posts, I’m committing now to share in my next post my light bulb moment. Hopefully, I do see you on the trail and you’re not alarmed. Maybe you’re even cruising along on Plus tires.

Cool write up in Mountain Flyer about kids adventuring on their Cleary’s in Crested Butte

Junior Bike Week in Crested Butte, Colorado, is growing up to be the biggest kids’ bike party on the planet—and very likely the only multiday festival that’s 100 percent focused on youth. Originally started as Junior Crested Butte Bike Week in 2016, the event is held in conjunction with the oldest and one of the wildest bike shindigs in America, Crested Butte Bike Week.

PSI: Why It’s Especially Important for Kids Bikes

Air filled tires are simple and amazing invention, so much so that today we take them for granted. But before Scottish inventor John Boyd Dunlop invented the pneumatic tire we were all suffering through cobblestones and rough roads on solid rubber, wooden or metal tires. Think of a horse drawn cart, with its rigid wooden and steel wheel. That’s how uncomfortable early bicycles were.
