Our little bike company enjoyed our 4th Sea Otter this year. Amazing.
The two Hedgehogs pictured here are each three years old and they still ride smoothly and look great. It feels like we started a little pedal revolution when we rolled into Sea Otter in our VW Vanagon loaded inside and out with bikes. Our first conversations were:
“What kind of bike is that?”
“It’s a kids bike.”
“No way! I wish they had those when I was first learning to ride!”
Today, several other companies make kids bikes, and families (at least at our booth) outnumbered racers 2 to 1. Thank you to all the moms and dads who came to our booth to say hello and share ride stories. Samuel J. (age 7) rode 12 miles of fire roads with his mom, Allison with curls growing out of her helmet (age 9) rode most of the xc course on a Deep Blue Meerkat and Cinderella story, Rhodes (age 2), pushed his Starfish balance bike around the expo until he passed out on the grass in front of our booth Friday afternoon. Yes, we draped a t-shirt over him; and no, we did not shave his eyebrows.
We’ve grown up and matured the last few years alongside the thousands of kids now adventuring on our bikes. Thanks to all you parents, thanks to Sea Otter, thanks to MTBR, thanks to Cyclocross Magazine, and a huge, pizza-filled thanks to B is for Bicycle and Buddy Pegs!
We look forward to catching up on all the new stories next year.
